Top of mind is the ongoing plans for a New School in Somerville. I have shared some thoughts in my Fall 2025 newsletter but in short it is a very complex decision, whether to sustain two schools or create a larger new school to serve the population of both the Brown and the Winter Hill schools. Share your thoughts with School Committee, the Mayor and/or members of the Construction Advisory Group (CAG) who will be making their recommendations to the community in November 2025. 

Superintendent Dr. Rubén Carmona and his team launched a district strategic plan in 2024 and is now hosting community listening sessions scheduled in November and January on Special Education (11/12), Out-of-School time (1/14) and Multilingual Learners Education (1/28). Hybrid School Committee Meetings and Public Comment: The School Committee convenes regular school committee meetings in person, with remote access, and subcommittees are hosted at the discretion of the subcommittee chairs but most are hosted remotely.  All dates, times, links to access for SC meetings and instructions for public comment are posted on the SPS website. The SC will also host public comment at the beginning of each meeting for those who sign up before 7 pm. Please arrive early or login to the meeting a few minutes early to sign up.
